iPod to Play Music and Record Performances in Music Class

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our music room is a safe and fun place where my students make music together. They walk into the room, I grab my ukulele, and we sing hello to each other. Despite challenges they might have, I want my students to find comfort in music.
I teach every class in our school from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade, nearly a total of 500 students, at a Title I elementary school in Washington Heights in Manhattan, New York City.
Many of my students come from a Hispanic background. For most of them, our music class is the only opportunity for their music lessons. Therefore, I want to make our time together as meaningful as possible.
Our school maintains relatively small class sizes, and that enables teachers to give more tailored instruction, but this is a factor which contributes to a tight budget. In addition, a lot of students come from low-income families. Nevertheless, I am determined to do my best not to let those factors stand in the way of my students getting the resources they deserve. I hope to provide them with the right tools and opportunities through the support here at DonorsChoose.org.
My Project
Having an iPod will allow my students to perform several tasks efficiently in our music classroom. First, it serve as a designated music playing device in my class. Currently, I use my personal iPhone in airplane mode during class hours, and I have been wishing that we have a separate device to play music. I also believe that the form of the new device should be something that many of my students are already familiar with. For that reason, an iPod would work well for my students since an iPhone, a common device, and an iPod share many similarities.
In the meanwhile, an iPod won't be just a device to play music; in conjunction with my Apple Music subscription, an iPod will also make more music available for my students to listen to.
I subscribe to Apple Music service, a paid service that gives me access to a huge music library, which I use when researching and planning lessons. Apple Music with an iPod together, from the same company, Apple, will make a tremendous amount of musical pieces available for my students and conveniently play music for my students.
In addition, an iPod will also work as an audio/video recording device for my students to look back at their performances. Having a separate tool to do this, as opposed to using my personal iPhone, will once again help my students achieve tasks more efficiently.
This is only my second year at the school, but I can confidently say I am doing my best to provide my students with a high-quality music education.
