My students need an Apple iPod touch digital player as a way to connect to the world through the best available technology, putting them at the cutting edge of what is happening today.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Be the change you want to see in the world," Mahtma Gandhi, my students apply this quote in my classroom and dream big every day. They know that the sky is the limit and there is absolutely nothing that is impossible for them to accomplish. However they need to have the right tools to succeed.
Urban community struggling to get ahead but willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
They don't yet understand the limits of anything classes and economical limitations, all they know is that they are here and able to take on the word if they are given half a chance! They are willing to take on all challenges to succeed because they know that they are very special and can contribute to our society in a very meaningful way. Who is to tell them otherwise? They however, need to have hands-on experiences which would be made possible through an Ipod to be shared among their peers. Our school however, does not have enough money to provide the tools to meet the technological challenges we are now facing. We do have a computer lab, available to 600 students at an assigned time. This is not enough exposure for students to do research on a daily basis, and look up important pertinent information to the text, standard based instructions, and grade level skills.
My Project
These resources will help to reinforce that nothing is this world is impossible and that they can achieve anything they put their minds into. It will allow them to match the competitive world of technology and provide hands-on experiences that will go beyond the boundaries of our school walls. With an iPod to be shared among twenty four students their lives will be changed from a traditional method of learning to a more technology-based learning methods based on student-learner control. As a teacher I would be able to provide my students with electronic technologies that provide instructions in a linear fashion through highly structured, programmed software, set to the pace on instructions and the subject matter. The iPod would provide an opportunity for students to learn collaboratively in teams and provide depth of instructions in any given subject matter. Students' will have the opportunity for electronic learning simulations and a richer learning environment.
You can make a difference in these student's life!
You can let them know that they can do research, be in contact with the most updated technology and participate in meaningful academic projects like the rest of the world! Don't let their low income, low education upbringing stand in the way of progress. Let them know that all things are possible and that you believe in them by contributing to their successful present and future! Help put learning back in our students' hands.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
