iPod Is a Digital Bookshelf!

My students need two iPod touches and a listen along book set for individual listening libraries. Each student will have a copy of a book on the iPod and be able to listen to it at their own pace.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty Title I school, my students are faced with numerous challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, my students love to learn. I like providing my students with hands-on, creative, and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are in a Blended Classroom.

This is a classroom that has typical students blended in with special education students. This is a class where the students are peer role models for academic, social, and behavior skills. All children learn by being together. Because the philosophy of blended education is aimed at helping all children learn, everyone in the class benefits. Children learn at their own pace and style within a nurturing learning environment.

My Project

My students need a listening center! Helping our classroom with the funds for these iPod and listen along books would allow students to listen to stories being read to them during literacy centers while they closely follow along with the words on the pages. As research-based best practices suggest, following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of texts.

However, the experience of reading independently and getting lost in a great book they have chosen for themselves is truly invaluable!

A listening center will develop their reading level and set them on a path for future success as their love for reading is enhanced.
