iPod for a Student Raffle

My students need an incentive to make better grades. I work at a low income school and students are not very motivated to do well; a chance to win an iPod would help.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

-The principal goal of education in the schools should be creating men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done. -Children who are loved at home come to school to learn. Children who aren't come to school to be loved.

I currently teach at a low income school, where the majority of students come from underprivileged backgrounds.

There is a large population of minority students. I see in many of my students the desire to have more and be better, but based on their current circumstances being out of their control, they are limited. Most of them are eager to learn, but lack the necessary resources to do exceptionally well academically. There is also limited intrinsic and extrinsic motivations present for many of the students.

My Project

The primary purpose for my students using the iPod is for personal, recreational purposes. I am going to start a raffle that will be evaluated every grading period. Every student who makes an A (90% or better) during each grading period will be entered into the raffle. My hope is that the opportunity to win a gift that may not be financially feasible for a parent to purchase would help boost student motivation and encourage them to work hard to make the best grades possible.

Although the gift provides extrinsic motivation to excel academically, I believe that it will also encourage the students to continue to do their best and also reveal to them what their true potential is.

Often times, I notice students sometimes lack effort based on a diminished self-efficacy. As an educator, I believe it is imperative to help students discovery and actualize the pinnacle of their capabilities and talents. Above all, I believe the opportunity will encourage them to work hard.
