My Students
Research keeps supporting the use of technology in developing language skills in students with autism. Imagine the wonders an iPad mini could do at an expressive language workstation!
My students are all impacted by autism.
They range from the early stages of language acquisition, to learning how to blend letter sounds. They love visuals and are highly motivated by interesting materials, like computer games and lessons at interactive whiteboards. All of my students come from a low-income background and don't often have access to the technology that would really support their disability.
My Project
An iPad mini would be an incredible asset at an expressive language workstation in my Autism Special Day Class. Students would be able to receive individual lessons tailored to the device. They could also engage in highly stimulating activities that will be preferred by them, thus eliciting language. And not to mention, some joy!
Students with disabilities in wealthy communities have access to technology that helps them overcome the challenges associated with their diagnosis.
My students should have the same kind of access so they can truly thrive!
