Help me give my students iPads to increase engagement and social skill development for all learners throughout the school day and in afterschool clubs!
My students come from a high poverty/low income area with the majority of my students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. We also have a diverse population of students, many whom are English as a Second Language learners. Some of these students know little or no English. My students face many challenges at home and at school. I can't control what happens at home, however I can try to provide learning enrichment experiences in my classroom.
School is a place where they can come to learn, be respected, appreciated, and loved in a safe environment.
I want to instill a love of learning, a sense of pride in their accomplishments, and for them to know that they can succeed at whatever they choose to accomplish.
My goal from this project to provide students with access to updated technology daily whether it is listening to a story, researching a topic for writing, discovering a part of the planet they want to visit, practicing math facts, learning through personal interest, or developing social skills to support students who will be well rounded professional as the next generation of workers.
Students will take responsibility for their learning through being more engaged in a variety of tasks. During English Language Arts time students will be able to access the iPads for listening to stories, recording themselves reading for fluency checks, research on designated sites for written pieces, and developing phonological awareness through games and activities. During math instruction students will be able to use the iPads for math fact fluency, using online math tools such as geoboards, fraction models, money, and other approved district approved sites. These will be used daily for intervention and an extension of learning.
