My young scholars are pre-kindergartners and kindergartner that are part of an urban elementary school with a strong military family presences. At least 64% of our students receive reduced or free lunch and our ELL student population is on the rise. There are three Pre-kindergarten classes and four Kindergarten classes, each grade level has at least one class that is partly made up of special education students. All students attend full day programs and are eager to learn.
Making sure that all our students are given equal opportunity to develop the skills needed for them to become fluent readers, and independent learners in the future is a top priority!
The iPads will enable the Pre-K and Kindergarten students in these classes to access the reading readiness program, Square Panda. The students will be able to participate in multiple groups settings: small group, stations, whole class, etc... allowing everyone the opportunity to practice what they are learning in a matter that is beneficial to their unique learning style, as well as, being a fun, effective and instrumental in developing the early reading skills needed to become a fluent reader and independent learner in the furture. All students including the English Language Learners and the Special Education students will make gains.
