My students need iPads as a supportive tool to enhance essential academic skills in the areas of math and science. The iPads will help to meet the needs of my students' different learning styles and abilities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class forms part of a diverse community of learners in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. A typical day in my classroom involves challenging students to overcome their fears as learners.
The school I am currently working in is a Title I School that services children of different backgrounds and learning abilities.
Students are exposed to hands on activities and collaborative groups to form meaningful and long lasting learning. My students are always eager and attentive to learn new things everyday.
My Project
Today's school community is surrounded by students of different learning styles and abilities. As teachers, it's important we meet the needs of these students. In order for us to support these students we need to find the appropriate tools and resources. My students are in need of an iPad to help them master fundamental concepts and skills throughout core academic areas.
The iPad will be used in Math and Science to enhance students' understanding of fundamental concepts through visuals and additional practice.
Students will be able to practice fundamental math skills such as addition and subtraction fluency. Students can use the iPad to view educational videos as well as listen to books on the iPad. During math, students will have the opportunity to explore various apps such as Splash Math to supplement mathematical concepts. Most importantly, students will be able to self assess their understanding of a particular math concept.
During Science, students will use the iPad for research. Many of my students don't have access to a computer or internet at home. It will be of great benefit for them to have a tool such as the iPad in the classroom that they can use to research. For example, during our unit on animals, my students can find facts and see videos or pictures of the animal of their choice.
Overall, an iPad will be a great tool to have in my classroom. My students' academic process will benefit through the use of an iPad.
