This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with a very diverse group of special needs students in the Bronx. Though they are all unique, one thing they have in common is their excitement and passion for technology.
My students are a lively, fun group of kids.
They love to play and learn and explore. Read alouds and dancing together are activities they love! I work in a very large school in New York City. We are fortunate enough to have Promethean boards and document cameras, but sadly, the students do not have technology available to them to use independently in the classroom. They love using different apps and websites like Reflex math and Starfall when they have the opportunity to access them.
My Project
I love centers and so do my students! During centers, students get an opportunity to travel from station to station, working on different skills in small groups. I would love to have a technology center with two iPads where students could work independently on an app or website. This would allow them to work at their appropriate levels while getting to enjoy the iPads. Worksheets just don't seem to reach children the same way technology can!
We live in a high-tech world.
By providing students with access to iPads, we are not only helping them learn, but we are preparing them for the world ahead. Using the iPads will teach the students not only how to use the technology and work independently, but also how to be responsible and share with others. The iPads will truly change their educational experience.
