My classroom consists of fourteen fantastic third through fifth-grade students. These students, with various severe disabilities, have been placed in my self contained classroom for more intensive learning.
My amazing students have very unique academic, social and behavioral challenges.
They are full of curiosity and are eager to learn new things! They just need a little help and sometimes a little creativity, to get them there. My students deserve the world and I want to provide the materials they need to succeed!
My Project
Teaching a child on the autism spectrum can be a difficult task. However, if you can find a way to teach them that is a “fun” experience for the child, it can be easier. The iPads will provide that “fun” experience by using technology that they enjoy. By utilizing the iPads in the classroom, Access Point curriculum standards will be met through a fun and interactive process. The iPads will allow me to teach my lessons using many different teaching strategies. My students will be more engaged and be more motivated to learn. The iPads offer a multitude of applications. The educational applications needed will be purchased and downloaded with an iTunes gift card.
My classroom has an enormous ability variation.
My 14 students are grouped into 3 learning groups. After my students have been given instruction from me, the iPads will be distributed to students for classroom use. The students will be able to use the iPads to work in multiple modalities (tactile, visual, and auditory) that will motivate them to practice new concepts and enhance their ability to share their thinking and learning. The applications written for this age group include immediate feedback that motivate either by correcting mistakes or moving them forward to new challenges. The iPad applications, that teach learning skills using tactile, visual, and auditory experiences, will create an additional “teacher’s helper” in my room and give my students the extra practice and repetition they need to acquire many concepts.
