My co-teacher and I teach an incredible group of second graders at a New York City public school. Our ICT class includes general education students and students with special needs, including those with ADD/ADHD, and learning disabilities. This makes our classroom an incredibly diverse community with a wide range of needs. All of the students are extremely bright, energetic, and eager to learn! Our goal is to be able to bring technology into the classroom to help every student, especially those performing below grade level, succeed.
My Project
We have requested iPads in order to help support my students in all areas of the curriculum, especially writing. Many students, especially those with special needs, benefit from the use of technology. We would love to be able to bring iPads into our classroom so our students can better express themselves through writing. Often times, our students have incredible ideas but struggle to get them down on paper. Having access to iPads in the classroom will allow our students to be able to get their ideas onto paper, allowing them to share their writing with their peers and feel successful! We will also be able to use the iPads in reading by downloading apps that have interactive books that may be read aloud to the students. The websites and apps we choose will be used to supplement the content in which we are teaching, and will help our students stay motivated in all areas of the curriculum.
