Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a low income/high poverty school district. Many of my students come from households where English is not the primary spoken language.
However, my students have a strong desire to learn, to progress, and to overcome the many hurdles that impede them from achieving their full potential.
As a special education teacher, I would love to provide essential learning tools in my classroom to help my students and prepare them for academic work.
They all love to be helpful and thankful, and enjoy learning by doing.
However, they struggle with many challenges that impact their progress in school and their ability to develop strong and meaningful relationships with others.
Despite their disabilities and struggles in the classroom, they want to learn, want to feel involved, and want to be successful in life.
All we need is to provide them with the right tools, support, and confidence, so that they can grow and be able to achieve success.
My Project
Most students with special needs can and will benefit from technology in the classroom. Incorporating technology within classrooms increases students’ motivation to learn and helps personalizes lessons to accommodate for one’s individual needs. Another aspect to bringing iPads in to the classrooms is that they are multi-sensory, meaning that students can take the learning approach that makes the most sense for them.
In addition, assistive technology help special needs students thrive academically and keep up with their peers, while also helps students achieve additional — sometimes unexpected rewards.
The tablets will provide my students with access to a world of endless online resources and applications dedicated to enhancing their potentials to succeed in.
