My students need iPads in the classroom to look up information and images when they are creating stories, narratives and story books. Their work involves visual elements and these iPad help students research.
The students I teach at my school are eager to learn and participate. They are predominantly English Language Learners ages 6-10. They come from homes where little or no English is spoken. Our school community is diverse and not all students speak the same native language. Bridging the gap in communication can be as simple experimenting with artists materials and tools, showing visuals, hanging art process signs in the classroom and using iPads to communicate visually. My students work, laugh and learn together building friendships and community. We are a Title 1 school, which means that the families are predominately low income, with all students receiving free lunch daily. We don't have the materials & resources needed to create more complex artistic projects.
My Project
I want my students to be able to search and explore topics and images when creating stories or narratives. iPads will help them research topics, shapes, and animals that they are rendering. Having technology on hand is incredibly helpful when students are stuck on ideas or what to draw. Students will be able to research topics and draw sequentially when creating story books or works of art that build off of topics or narratives. Students often need to see multiple images of what they are drawing and having iPad on hand will help imagery be more accessible. My students will be able to share information and websites about topics that they are investigating.
