This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third graders are incredibly inquisitive and excited about coming to school. Unfortunately, their access to technology is limited due to the low socioeconomic level of our community. My school is a Title 1 school with 85% of our students at a low-income level.
My students are only able to use a computer once a week at our school.
These creative kids would love to be able to use technology like a class iPad to collaborate, create, develop, and much much more!
My Project
I want the best for my amazing third grade students, and I strive to make every one of them college prepared and career ready. In the 21st century workforce all students will need to be able to effectively work with others, adapt to changing technology and communicate clearly orally and digitally. The iPads will be a perfect tool to help my students prepare for the future. In small groups, my students will use the iPads to research topics, write reports, and create movies on a variety of topics. Together they will synthesize the information, create and and present their movies to the class. While using the iPads the students will work collaboratively, be comfortable and adept at using new technology, and will speak publicly to their peers with confidence while answering questions about their topics.
In my own family, my two children have been fortunate to have daily access to technology since they were very young.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if all students could have that same opportunity? My students deserve that opportunity. They are at a tremendous disadvantage in this digital world. Two iPads would empower and enrich the education of my students. We must narrow the growing achievement gap, and give every student the kind of education we'd want for our own children.
