Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school and many of my students come from low-income families. All of the students receive free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status and all of my students are hungry to learn.
This year students are getting the opportunity to receive the Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas and having iPads to practice Spanish will increase their chances.
A lot of them have to work long hours after school to help their parents pay for the essentials and some even help pay the bills too. They don't have the resources needed at home so providing them with access to technology at school is a tremendous commodity.
My Project
Technology has been a major part of the learning of a foreign language in my classroom. These iPads will allow students to continue practicing their skills in Spanish using a variety of Apps and videos. Students will be able to record their voices and self assess their pronunciation as well as the newly learned vocabulary.
These iPads will help students practice their knowledge through centers at their speed or with their peers.
IPads will create a more effective venue to learn a foreign language. We can add Apps for Spanish practice and allow students to research other cultures. My students are ready to challenge themselves by using technology in the foreign language classroom to improve their language skills for the future.
