Technology is everywhere. When technology and teaching combine, it can have a profound effect on students. I would love to be able to provide my students with educational experiences using technology.
I teach at a Title 1 school where over 85% of our population is at risk.
The majority of my students do not have an adult at home that reads to them. Because of this, when a book is handed to my fourth graders and the expectation is for them to read it, they do not even know where to begin.
My Project
By having four iPad minis in my classroom, I can have a group of students listening to recorded books as they follow along with a hard copy. This will increase below level readers fluency and keep all students excited and engaged in reading.
Having iPad minis in my classroom also opens up opportunities for students to "play" on educational apps. There are several reading apps that give student extra practice with story elements (such as Toontastic) and a multitude of apps that reinforce essential math skills.
Including iPad minis as part of my instruction will greatly enhance the educational experience I provide for my students!
A lot of my students are not read to at home and some of their only opportunities to be read to are at school.
Using the iPads to download recorded books would be educational and a treat for my students! Reluctant learners would be motivated by the fun and educational apps the iPads can provide.
iPads would be a fabulous addition to my daily instruction!
