This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This is my second year teaching in an Integrated Co-teaching First grade classroom at a school in Brooklyn. We have a very limited budget to spend on school supplies. My classroom has centers for reading and math.
My school is a Title I school.
This means that most of my students have free or reduced lunch. They come from a low income home. Technology captivates their attention and helps them to learn new skills more quickly.
My students are often reluctant, below-grade-level readers. Many of them have special needs and some are former English Language learners. But they all love to read and I want them to continue doing so. There are tons of literacy apps and math apps on the iPad that we will be able to utilize in the classroom for students during center and/or choice time.
My Project
Students will have the opportunity to work on the iPads during centers. They will also have the opportunity to work on them if they are a fast finisher. This will give the students a chance to get some "tech time" in during the day.
My students will be able to use these materials to enhance their comprehension of text and math skills. They will also be able to practice word study and writing. My students will have the opportunity to work with one another which will help them develop academically and socially.
This tool is invaluable to my students. It excites them, motivates them and most of all taps into their most natural way of learning.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by allowing my students to work with their peers and participate in hands-on literacy and math activities during center time or choice time.
They will be able to engage in authentic learning opposed to completing worksheets.
