My students need an iPad to use for independent literacy stations! We complete stations daily and students work on literacy activities while I meet with reading groups.
I am working this year in a BUSY kindergarten classroom of 23 students, many of whom have special needs. My goal for all of my students is to create a happy and safe environment where they feel loved, challenged and successful. We work hard every day and literacy is a huge part of our day.
I work in a diverse school in upstate New York.
We are right on the border of a city and with that comes some unique challenges of transient students and many cultures. Many students have parents that speak little English and come from homes with a limited income.
My Project
With the addition of a new iPad in our classroom, students will be able to work in pairs to participate in educational games and activities at an independent literacy station. I meet with small reading groups daily for instruction and during that time, I ask students to work on reading, writing and word work activities on their own (in small groups).
Having another iPad to add to the one we currently have would allow students to use technology to create another hands-on and FUN literacy station that will not only keep them occupied while not in a reading group, but also learning at the same time!
Donations to fund this project will make a huge difference for my students.
Children are so knowledgeable about technology and learn well by being hands-on with a variety of materials. There is so much more now to learning than just pen and paper! Using iPads for learning will help create a fun environment for students that I hope will learn to love school.
