My Students

This past summer, I was selected to participate in the ACST Summer Institute funded by the Agnes Nelms Haury Foundation at Biosphere 2. For 2 weeks I was inundated with STEM activities for the classroom. I was so excited to bring this to my students but need more technology so all can participate.

My students are enthusiastic about learning and are hungry for new experiences and technology.

We are a Title 1 school with 88% free/reduced priced lunches. There are not many opportunities for technology in their homes so they are falling behind peers at more affluent schools. We are sharing one iPad Air at the moment and their confidence with apps and handling the iPad have inspired me to ask for help in getting more for our classroom.

My Project

My students will be filming themselves explaining math problems, giving book reports, demonstrating science, and describing social studies (explorers, pioneers, Arizona history). They can create Venn diagrams on educational apps and visit the world to see places and things they have only heard. By having an iPad Mini for each group of 4, they will have access to cooperative learning and production. The students will have enough tablets to allow everyone hands-on experiences.

Given the tools, my students can achieve goals they didn't know they could dream about and gain confidence about their abilities and futures.

They can learn that they are second to no one and anything is possible with hard work and resilience. Technology is the future but is not a reality for most of my students. They need help in getting the tools they need to fly.
