Our high school is very small and does not have a computer lab for students to access technology. My students are asking for six iPads so that they can utilize technology in the classroom to help with their education.
My students love attending their small and rural high school, but they recognize that they do not have as much access to technology as other larger schools do. There is not a computer lab in our high school, and the library has a few laptops that students can check out but they are very outdated. A huge focus in our classroom is research writing, and it has become difficult for students to conduct their research on the limited technology that is available to them in our school. By having these six iPads in class, my students can conduct and share research in an interactive and innovative way that will invigorate their learning process.
A huge academic skill that we work on in our classroom is research and expository writing. My students recognize that they will need to be able to write well and clearly explain themselves and document their sources no matter what they choose to do after high school. These six iPads will help my students learn how to conduct authentic research, as well as learning teamwork and real-life problem-solving by working together in groups. Student collaboration through iPads is easy, innovative, and fun! My students would definitely develop important academic and social-emotional skills by utilizing these iPads in class.
In Their Own Words
Our high school is very small and does not have a computer lab for students to access technology. We are asking for six iPads so that we can research, type, and share information in the classroom.
If we had six iPads in our classroom, it would give us the chance to be in charge of our own learning. We would be able to have more freedom in our classroom with conducting research. Instead of our teacher finding articles for us and printing them out, we could actually go online and find them for ourselves. This would teach us research skills, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
By having six iPads in our classroom, we would be able to type projects and research papers in our own classroom instead of using the few outdated laptops that we have in the library. This would help our entire school by freeing up the few laptops that are in the library for the rest of the students.
