My students need iPad minis and a bluetooth speaker so that they may research and share their findings with their classmates. This will allow them to internalize what they have learned and teach others as well.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows- Sydney J. Harris. My students are enthusiastic 5th graders who learn all subjects in both English and Spanish. They have a million and one questions and love to go in search for the answers.
My students crave knowledge and want to explore the world!
From science to customs and culture, they want to know it all. They are curious creatures who, for now, want to use technology to be able to explore the world just until they can physically do it themselves. However, here at school the students do not have much access to technology except for the computer lab that they visit for 45 minutes every two weeks.
My Project
My students will use these iPads to do research. In addition to doing research in life science, physical science, and Earth science, our fifth graders also have a big project towards the end of the year called "Exhibition". The projects take about 6-8 weeks to complete. These projects entail the students doing research on some of the injustices that occur in our world.
The goal of this project is to find ways to make the world a better place.
They will not only research the injustices that occur but find ways to make a difference. They will come up with solutions and include the community and school to make an impact in our world.
The students will also be able to watch and/or make videos presenting their problem and solution. The bluetooth speaker will allow the class to watch and listen to the videos at the same time.
