My students need 4 iPads, 4 covers, and 4 headphones to improve Language and Math skills and to better familiarize themselves with the technology needed to perform well on the Smarter Balanced Test.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager learners that love to play with technology. Unfortunately, we only have one iPad in the classroom and one laptop that no longer works properly. There are games to help them with Reading and Math on the iPad but only one student at a time can practice his or her skills.
My students are Dual Language students who have double the work compared to the other students at our school because they are learning in two languages.
There are so many games and applications available for them to practice English, Spanish, and Math but we only have one iPad in the classroom to do so. My students also have to take the required Smarter Balanced Test in the Spring which is administered on iPads. Last year, many of my students had difficulties on the test, not because they didn't know the content, but because they were not accustomed to using an iPad and that hurt their performance.
My Project
I am requesting 4 iPads, 4 covers, and 4 headphones to improve Language and Math skills and to better familiarize themselves with the technology needed to perform well on the Smarter Balanced Test. With the iPads and headphones, I will create centers with specified applications that they will work from. They will be able to practice Spanish, English, and Math skills using the various apps. They will also become familiarized with the iPad so that when they have to take the Smarter Balanced Test; they will not be distracted by the frustration of not knowing how to use the iPad.
This donation will help my students because it will better prepare them for what is to come: preparing them for the Smarter Balanced Test, helping them improve their Spanish skills, allowing them to refine their English grammar, and building confidence in Mathematical reasoning.
