My Students

In my Language Arts classroom, I teach with small groups in order to give differentiated instruction. I use Work Stations to allow the students to complete tasks at their own level and pace. I would love to have an iPad/Tech station to give my students more exposure to literature in a fun way.

Our student population is 99.9% at the poverty level, according to the Ohio Dept.

of Education. Our students have the lowest test scores in our county. We are a rural, Appalachian-cultured school with low funding available to our district. Our students come from diverse backgrounds with many being raised by grandparents or other relatives. Even through these circumstances, our students come to school and give their best.

My Project

I would love to have four iPads to use in our room. There are so many apps and websites available to benefit my language arts program. I want to give the students more exposure time to hearing books being read to them, seeing and manipulating sounds in words and also to do this in a fun way through an iPad. I will have four set up in a station and each student in fourth grade will be given exposure time daily.

Most of my students come to me already behind in language skills and development.

The best way to help them make up this time, is to give them more experiences listening, reading, writing and using language. I will be teaching in small groups to meet individual instructional needs, but I want to keep my students independently learning when they are not with me. The iPad is a non-threatening, innovative way to engage all students.
