Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I can tell my students about the world, or I can use the new iPad to show it to them. The images, video clips, presentations, and educational apps that my students will have access to with the new iPad in our classroom will enrich their learning in a lasting, powerful way.
I teach a very diverse group of students.
Culturally, they have roots in Mexico, Central and South America, India, the Philippines, Korea, Egypt, and various parts of the United States. Ten of my twenty-four students are English language learners. Many of my students come from working class families who have limited resources to invest in their education. Despite these challenges, my students' parents are involved in their children's education and my students work hard and are extremely eager to learn.
My Project
Research shows that children learn better when you show them an idea, a concept, an image, than when you just tell them about it. The new iPad will allow me to present images, literature, and concepts to the whole class in a way that will engage everyone. Using the new iPad and our LCD projector, I will be able to model the processes for writing letters, research reports, and presentations. It will allow students to interact kinetically with educational apps while their classmates watch and learn. It will inspire them to create and present their own work. They will be eager to stand, speak, and manipulate the new iPad to present their work. The new iPad is an invaluable tool for learning, and your generosity can insure we have one to use daily!
The new iPad is a tool for universal access.
It will allow all of my students, even those with limited English, to have a better understanding of the topics we will encounter in our classroom.
