iPads Encourage Students to Become 21 Century Communicators

My students need 2 iPads in our classroom to become 21st century communicators.

My Students

The students in my class are made up of mainly children who live in the apartments and town homes near the school. It is a heterogeneous class with a mix of academic and socioeconomic backgrounds. As with any class, it is made up of extroverts and introverts, and some kids who have difficulty fitting in.

My students are very capable and I keep trying to find ways to empower them to take more ownership in their learning experience.

This can be challenging with time and budget constraints.

My Project

iPads in the class will empower students to take ownership in the learning process and better communicate what has been learned with their families. Students will seamlessly use the camera and various apps to document and communicate their learning with their parents.

This year, if we are able to purchase iPads, I would like students to take over our classroom's Class Dojo account to communicate with their families our daily announcements, document learning activities that occur during the school day, and develop an online portfolio.

In the past, I took photos with my phone and shared with parents day to day glimpses of what their children were up to during the school day through the Class Dojo app/website. Wouldn't it be so much more meaningful if it were students doing the sharing?

Educational apps, online resources, and sharing networks allow students to access information and share their creativity with others. In addition to using the class account, students will create their own Class Dojo accounts. Having access to iPads will make it easy for students to use the Class Dojo portfolio feature to develop and maintain a portfolio of their work. They will be able to share this with parents during our quarterly student-led conferences.

Please help me obtain two iPads to empower my students to become effective 21st century communicators and take ownership in the learning process. Thank you for your consideration!
