My students need an iPad mini 2 to inspire creativity and supplement skills in reading, writing, math, science, social studies and team projects & presentations.
Creativity, imagination, problem solving and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for EVERY student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals.
Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,200 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning. I teach 2nd grades students all day, and I plan and teach after-school enrichment programs to provide a variety of learning opportunities outside of the classroom. A high percentage of our students need to be challenged through these types of programs. The iPad applications are not only implemented in my second grade classroom throughout the day, but they are also integrated with my STEM after-school enrichment program team projects for first and second grade students.
My Project
Donated funds will be used to purchase an iPad mini to supplement the classroom curriculum and STEM requirements. The technology piece will serve in our iPad Island Station and will provide a place for students to conduct investigations alone and with a team while developing 21st century skills in collaboration, creativity, and technology integration. Through carefully selected applications, the iPad will provide our lowest achieving readers access to a wide variety of meaningful literacy tasks in the areas of phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension -- the skills they need to attain reading proficiency. Various apps will also enhance Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills, accelerate student achievement, and ignite creativity. I have also learned how to use the Plickers' App as a formative assessment piece. By using this data, I can reteach a skill via the Show Me app for students who may need additional support and provide additional challenges for advanced kids.
The iPads will provide a place for students to conduct investigations while developing 21st century skills in collaboration and technology integration.
It will help them to improve in reading, math and writing to make gains at their individual levels. iPads will change their lives for the better by allowing them to grow in confidence about using current technology and inspire them to use their imaginations and be creative. "Imagination is more important than knowledge." -Albert Einstein
