iPads Are Glorious Learning Devices

My Students

I teach special education in a rural area that was recently hit by Hurricane Michael. My classroom took a hit from the hurricane but we are a tight class and have made due with what has happened. My little peeps came back to school ready to be back to a new normal and, boy, was I so happy to see my little peeps!

All my students have some disability they are living with on a daily basis.

Even though my students face these disabilities daily, they give it their all. They try harder and it takes them two to three times longer for them to understand a concept being taught to them. Even with this they come to school and work to the best of their ability and that is what I ask of them.

The best learning environment for my little peeps is a safe place where they can be their selves so they are able to thrive in the class in order to one day grow in all areas of their lives.

My Project

My students always want to bring in their personal devices but they are not compatible with our internet system or are too old to use. They get super excited when I bring in my iPad to show them some educational video or game. They automatically flock to it like it's the most wonderful piece of technology they have ever seen! My students will flourish with two new I-Pads with protective cases for each one. Also, the apple pen will allow students to practice motor skills and hand writing in the class.

My students come from a low economic background and the parents are doing what they can for their kiddos but a new iPad, protective case and Ipen are not up on the priority list when they have to take care of food, shelter and other basic needs for my students.

New iPads with protective covers would be a special treat for them to learn on! There are so many educational apps to choose from that the kiddos would benefit with reading,math apps and handwriting apps using the IPen with the IPad. Plus they also have engaging apps science and social studies the kids could learn from.
