My students need an iPad Air 2 (32gb with wifi capabilities) with a waterproof protective case to better access multiple modalities in order to practice and develop skills without some of the roadblocks they often experience.
The students in my classroom are Kindergarten through 4th grade, come from across the district, and all reside within the district. The school is a Title I school. It is also a school of choice with approximately 60% of the students coming from outside the district boundaries. There is a diverse ethnic make up and a range of socio-economic levels. All of my students have one or more disabilities and have a variety of learning needs.
My students all have an amazing zest for learning in spite of the difficulties they experience every day.
They are always striving and working hard to learn even the simplest tasks, like walking or holding a crayon to scribble, that many people would take for granted.
My Project
I am seeking an iPad Air to assist my students in finding ways to tap into their potential without their physical limitations getting in their way. Due to some of my students limitations carrying a heavier piece of technology would be more difficult. I am also asking for a rugged case that is waterproof. Some students are prone to dropping things or have issues with drooling so this type of case will better protect the iPad. An iPad Air will allow for stylus use for those with enough motor control as well as touch screen capabilities for those without the fine motor abilities. This will allow them to practice things like pre-writing and writing skills as well as making a selection. Additional apps are available at little or no cost to help them to practice skills like letter identification, story writing, counting, and basic math skills.
My students are in need of technology that will allow them to reach higher and do more than they, and many adults in their lives, ever thought possible.
This project will help make sure they are headed in the right direction to reach their potential.
