Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Despierta America" wake up America. I tell my students this every morning. My students are the future of this country and I do all that I can to get them motivated and excited about all the wonderful things we are going to learn. I want them to get excited and stay excited about learning.
My students are bilingual, hard-working, economically disadvantaged students.
School is usually the only place they have access to technology. My school is 90% economically challenged and Hispanic. My students are learning two languages and need to be constantly challenged and motivated. I am constantly telling them that they are going to go to college and some of them tell me that their parents have already told them they can't because they don't have any money. I would like to do everything I can to be sure that they have access to the latest technology.
My Project
I would use the ipad as a center for reading. I can have them working on the ipad while I work with another group of students. I can be sure that they will be engaged and learning independently. They can be working on their high frequency words that are critical for reading fluency. For math, I would use the ipad as an extra practice tool. We can access apps and games and will give them an additional resource to learn those critical math skills that are so incredibly important for their continued success in school. With only two student computers only a limited number of students can access the games and information.
It will improve my classroom by allowing my kids to access technology that they know is out there.
I believe that it will open their minds to the great possibilities that are available to them. They will have had the experience of working with a technological tool that will advance their knowledge of computer devices and apps. Also by learning that they had the money, to buy the ipad, donated they will learn the importance of giving back and how a few people can make a huge difference.
