My students need an iPad2. Help to supply just 1 of 5 needed iPads to transform my classroom into a model for technology-based education for my school.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our district and school routinely uses iPads for reading assessments. I want to take this powerful tool from assessment to full-on instructional tool. I want to put them in the hands of teams during problem-solving in Mathematics in order to encourage collaboration and promote logical reasoning.
My students are all English Language learners.
Many do not have access to computers or Internet at home, but they are eager learners and excited about the world and technological advances. Our school has actively provided them with technology training through two computer labs and computers in the classroom. Help me take them to the next level!
My Project
Today's educational environment is very competitive and individualistic. I want my students to enjoy competitive activities, but with the excitement of collaboration.
The iPads will be used by teams during Mathematics instruction. These teams will solve problems together directly on their team's iPad. Team representatives will then explain their problem-solving strategies to the rest of the class as they wirelessly display their math solutions using an LCD projector. It seems complicated, but will be done in a matter of seconds by a simple touch on the iPad!
I am a Nationally Board certified teacher getting her Masters in Technology-Based Education.
I have helped to write grants for technology training for myself and colleagues. Rest-assured that these valuable resources will be tapped into for their fullest potential. These resources will not only help my own students, but through modeling for my colleagues, it will transform instruction for hundreds of students. It will put an urban school in a low-income community the technological map!
