Middle school can be one of the most difficult times for a student. A student at this academic level is expected to develop and mature socially as well as academically. This expectation can be especially difficult when a child is struggling greatly with basic reading and computation skills.
I teach a self- contained special education middle school ELA and math class, within a high poverty- title one school, with a diversified group of learners.
My students exhibit struggles with their core academic areas, with some struggling in math and most struggling in reading. In addition there is also a large population of students in the class that are English language learners who exhibit extreme language arts deficiencies. Despite their learning struggles and limited resources my student's enjoy learning and exhibit great efforts in the classroom. As a special education teacher I want to be able to provide my students with the maximum level of support and intervention to help them reach their academic goals.
For my students the intervention programs and apps available on the Internet and for the iPad would help them to achieve the skills necessary to reach grade level proficiency. An iPad would enhance my students learning and will allow them to obtain their yearly academic goals. For my English language learners an iPad would support their comprehension of the English written and oral language through various interactive apps specifically designed to meet the needs of ESL students.
An iPad will also allow me to further differentiate their learning needs and promote further engagement.
With your help I would be able to apply a key factor in removing the learning barriers that exist for my students and provide them with the support they need.
