My Project

An iPad is a very versatile tool in the science classroom. One way that I plan to use the iPad, specifically for Earth Day, is to do a 'nature walk' around our campus. There are several apps that are compatible with an iPad that can be used to identify and categorize different plants. Some of those apps include: picture this, flower pedia, leaf snap, and PhD soil sample app. These apps will allow us to document the plant life around our campus, which directly ties into final unit of the school year.

Using an iPad in my classroom will help keep students engaged, excited about learning, and expose them to technology that they may not have access to at home.

It's no secret that students love to do something out of the ordinary. Being able to use an iPad in the classroom would definitely be out of the ordinary for my students. My goal for this project is to have an iPad that we can use for many different units, not only the unit about plants. An iPad and Apple Pencil will help support STEM learning by allowing student to capture and analyze data, and create their own experiments.

Many of my students have never used technology other than their phones and Chromebooks. Having an iPad would broaden their experiences, allowing them to go above and beyond the normal 8th grade science standards.
