This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the best job in the world! I have the privilege of working with 20 Pre-Kindergarten students who come to school every day with a sense of curiosity and wonder about the world they live in. It is my privilege to use their inquisitiveness to help prepare them for the world that we live in, a world that requires an understanding of how to use technology.

I start each school day with warm hugs and beautiful smiles from 20 Pre-K students.

Although my students are a diverse group of children who come from all types of cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, they share a universal love of technology. We have an interactive white board that I use every day and it is fascinating to see how much more engaged my students are in these particular lessons. Working with one interactive board and 20 children, however, limits each child's actual hands-on use of technology. Consequently, I am searching for ways to maximize their one on one time with technology. Adding two iPads to our Technology Center would enable more children to take turns attending that center and work for a prolonged period of time using iPads.

My Project

In our classroom, we have different learning centers, one of which is a Technology Center. Currently, I have two iPads in our Technology Center which need to be shared by 20 students. I would like to strengthen this center by adding two more iPads, thereby doubling the number of students that are exposed to technology through their use of iPads.

iPads are an ideal tool for introducing students to technology while developing their academic skills.

If we were to have two more iPads in our Technology Center, more students would have access to numerous free educational websites such as Starfall, Brainpop and ABCMouse. Additionally, iTunes offers free educational apps that could be installed on all of the iPads. These free websites and apps strengthen children's reading, math and science skills as they play games. The children love playing on these websites and apps and don't even realize they are learning! Also, two more iPads would allow more students to take turns as class photographers. Finally, two more iPads would allow us to take more pictures and videos of our classroom activities and post them to our class website for families to view.

iPads are an exemplary way of introducing students to technology and developing their computer literacy and academic skills. Having two more iPads in our Technology Center would allow me to maximize each child's one on one time with an interactive technology tool thereby simultaneously developing each child's academic and technological skills.
