Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are located in the heart of a large, urban neighborhood. The majority of students are of Hispanic ethnicity (74.0%) and also classify within a high poverty rate (79.9%). The poverty rate is the concentration of students enrolled at the school who qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Price Meals Program.
The students in my science classes are all energetic, curious, and excited about new learning experiences.
In addition to their academic studies, many of the students participate in extracurricular activities such as singing, acting, sports teams, leadership, and cheerleading. Many of the students are particularly interested in the entertainment field, as one of our school magnets focuses on the performing arts.
I would like to implement the use of an iPad when teaching lessons in my Chemistry and Physics classes. iPads allow students to explore 3D simulations of scientific concepts, such as molecular structures or chemical reactions. For instance, students can manipulate virtual molecules using natural hand gestures, enhancing their understanding of complex topics. In addition, iPads can display visual content, including photos, diagrams, and videos. As a Chemistry teacher, I can use them to illustrate chemical reactions, show molecular models, or present periodic tables interactively. And lastly, I can use an iPad for formative assessments, quizzes, and instant feedback.
