My students attend a school in a low poverty and high crime rate neighborhood in Nevada. My school is a Title I, Tier III school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Many students also receive a food bag for the weekend. Most of the students live with their families in apartments or a hotel room and struggle with where they will be living in the next week. Regardless of their at home situation, my little learners come to school ready to learn.
Future leaders will need to know how to use technology. They will be challenged to create, build, and produce products with the use of technology. My students need iPad mini tablets because it will help them to learn, read, think, share, and reflect. Using the tablets, students will be given the opportunity to use technology in ways that they could not have imagined. They will be able to use educational applications, create digital projects to share with family member at home, assess academic growth, and scan QR codes to complete individual reading activities.
Very few of the students in my class have access to technology at home, so it becomes a struggle to adapt and keep up with the technological advancements that other students their age may already have at home.
Having tablets in the classroom will give students the opportunity to learn how to use technology and engage them to learn all subjects.
