iPad Technology Comes to 5th Grade

My Students

My students are a dynamic group of fifth graders who love technology, science and art. They are always interested in doing great experiments but many still struggle in the areas of reading, math, and applied science. They need activities that engage them in learning to keep them motivated to flourish.

These children's parents are very supportive in wanting them to succeed in all aspects of their education.

My students work hard each and every day regardless of the successes and struggles they have in their lives.

My Project

I have quite a bit of reading support to in the classroom through books and novels. However, we lack the ability to use technology effectively as a tool in the classroom because we do not have a lot of technology available for the students to use. Therefore, I would like to teach kids to use the iPad and its apps during the school day.

Students will learn how to use an iPad in the classroom.

We will be able to utilize the apps the iPad has to offer by being able to explore all the uses of this 21st century learning -- technology in the classroom! For example, I have several English Language Learners who are developing writing skills. They will be able to compose their essays with the use of online apps likes Dueling or Rosetta Stone. Another example would be for the entire class during science and math. The iPad can be used as a station or interactive whiteboard. There are a variety of apps to use with the pencil like Explain EDU, Froggipedia and Showbie where students are able to do marvelous experiments like dissecting animals with the use of an Apple Pencil and the iPad. This is just one small piece of what can be done with these two pieces of technology.
