Our school is an elementary (K-6th), inner-city school located in East Los Angeles. We service a low-income community, many of whom live in government-funded housing. All of the students at our Title I school qualify for free lunches through the National School Lunch Program. We also have a high percentage of students that are English Language Learners.
Mine is a class of wonderful, bright, and creative students, who happen to have autism.
Our class is composed of students who range from moderate to severe autism from grades 3 to 6.
All my students will benefit from a multi-sensory means of learning that the iPad along with our smartboard will provide. The numerous communication apps provided for by the iPad will engage their sense of touch, hearing, and sight. The educational apps available will also provide my higher functioning students with an alternative means of learning. They will have limitless access to books that have interactive activities, as well as audio reading. They will also be able to access educational games and videos to supplement our lessons.
Support from generous donors like you will make a tremendous impact in improving the quality of education for my students with Autism.
These technology resources will greatly benefit their multi-sensory engagement. It will also improve their reading and communication skills.
