Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Who's a champ?" " I'm a Champ!" My students chant out loud every day to remind themselves that they are the champions in learning.
The sparks for learning start in the heart of these little children in Kindergarten.
My students are bilingual learners in a Korean English Dual Language program. More than half of them are ELD learners and they need effective educational aids and supplies to support their learning and continue to grow as champions. Having access to new learning materials that meet their needs in second language acquisition will broaden their young minds and assist them in becoming the successful learner they hope to be when they shout out, "I'm a champ!"
My Project
In my Kindergarten class, students share seven iPad mini 2s that got funded through DonorsChoose five years ago. On their assigned days, students read online books and practice math concepts on the educational apps in an attempt to improve their ELA and Math skills. This independent learning activity is crucial for my small group literacy academy since I can only see six to seven students at a time to focus on their level of reading and math.
Unfortunately, one of the tablets is broken and it is in need of replacement.
Replacing the broken iPad with the latest model will help my class have access to more updated learning apps to increase their level of learning.
