My students need an iPad to access online resources, educational sites and videos. The speaker and earbuds allow the iPad to be used in whole group or independently.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose." -Dr. Seuss
My students need an iPad, speaker, and earbuds to help them find their own path through this digital age.
Room 7 is made up of 19 energetic 1st graders who love to learn!
They are all becoming independent readers and are very interested in discovering new information using technology. When I don't have an answer to their question, they often say things like, "Can you ask Siri?". The one thing we are lacking in our classroom is technology. Right now, the kids do not have any hands-on access to computers or tablets while at school.
My Project
These materials will be used in two very different ways. One way is in the whole group setting in which I can project the iPad onto the white board. This will be used while accessing Brain Pop, You Tube, Wikipedia, and the sites recommended by our language arts and math programs. Student learning can be enriched by viewing videos related to topics they are studying. This is also helpful to find photos to support ELD and vocabulary instruction. The other way this iPad will be used is for independent work. Independently, the students can use educational sites to access independent learning games. This is particularly important for the students who are working far below or far above grade level. Individual use of an iPad can also be used as a reward for good behavior or an activity for a child who "needs a break".
This project will make my students' lives better!
In the 1st grade, this iPad will increase my students' interest and knowledge in all academic and social areas. In the long run, the iPad skills that my students develop will be essential to their academic success as the standardized tests we use in our schools are given on iPads. All kids deserve every possible chance to succeed.
