My Project
In my ten years as a math teacher, I have learned that students need three things. They need a clear introduction of new concepts and skills as delivered by the teacher. They need a supportive classroom environment where they can get feedback on their work. And they need support in doing independent practice to master the material. This iPad Pro will help me provide all three of those supports seamlessly to maximize learning both in and outside of the classroom!
To start with, when I am up demonstrating new concepts, the Apple Pencil will allow me to demonstrate examples by hand, write directly on PDFs of the student’s work pages, and generally increase the effectiveness of direct instruction.
The iPad will also let me seamlessly switch to showing graphs through web tools like Desmos, or to showing videos of the practical applications of the math we are learning. The iPad will also allow students to take ownership of the material, as I can simply hand the iPad to them, and their work will be projected to the class in real-time.
Finally, the iPad gives me a tool to create resources that students can access asynchronously when they need help with independent work, such as recording example videos and taking advantage of the large screen of the iPad to make comprehensive note pages that can be posted to Google Classroom.
This iPad will increase my ability to meet the needs of my students in delivering math instruction, giving them opportunities to publicly demonstrate their learning in class, and create resources that they can access at home. All of this will make me a more effective teacher and my students more effective learners!
