Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be teaching third grade reading and writing at a Title I campus in Texas in the upcoming school year. Of our campus population, 95% of our students receive free and reduced-rate lunch. Some of my students come from homes that are almost in unlivable conditions.
My class will consist of 40 very diverse bilingual students who mostly come from low-income homes.
All of the students at our campus are eager to learn and truly have a love of learning. All of the students in my class are English language learners (ELLs) at various levels.
My Project
An iPad Pro are great tools to teach and learn how to code and produce content for the 21st century skills. I want to have students use the iPad to learn how to code using the Swift program that Apple has free for all students. I also want students to be able to utilize literacy applications to help them improve their literacy. Having new technology allows them to stay up-to-date and develop 21st-century skills, while also pushing ownership of their learning! Last school year, my students were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. They were forced to miss school for two weeks.
