Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I public school in a diverse community. Our school is one of seven high schools in our city and has a student population of roughly two thousand children.

My students deserve a well-stocked art classroom and a variety of materials to better explore their world and learn about life through the arts!

As a 100% free lunch district, resources are always extremely limited. My yearly budget is two dollars per student which makes it very difficult to provide students with interesting, engaging, and creative projects.

Multiple times over the year, I purchase supplies out of my own pocket to provide students with new experiences, but these projects would help me to reach all students. Just this year alone, I hosted a gallery walk where the artwork of over 500 students was on display. Artists from all walks of life were represented and showcased.

My Project

Students will be benefit from having and iPad and Apple Pencil to create digital artwork immensely. When they create or are working on a drawing program, they can use the iPad pencil and iPad to display their actual work in real time for the class. This will facilitate students learning to describe and present their original work. During a time where students are using a more digital art making platform due to COVID-19, it would be of great benefit to the students to have at their disposal, an apple pencil and accompanying iPad that would allow them to explore drawing and shading and using different styles of writing and drawing without actually using or touching a pen and paper.

This resource would be invaluable to my students as it would allow them access to this resource and they would be able to gain experience and knowledge that would better prepare them for the technology world that they live in.

It is imperative that these students have equal opportunities to engage with and practice on tools that are part of mainstream society. These tools will be used in the high schools and job arena in the future and I will have a major impact in preparing them with this resource
