This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an artist, my philosophy is that a plethora of resources, colors, and tools is the key to unlocking discovery and possibility. This year, I am teaching AP Art and Design for the first time in my 18 years of teaching, and I know in my heart that iPad Pros and Apple Pencils will help me to move my AP students to a score of a 5 on their portfolio. My students simply do not have work space within their homes. Their life circumstances result in a lack of stability: staying at different relatives' houses, sleeping on couches and closets, having no bedroom, no desk, and nowhere to store art supplies and resources. "Ms. Kopera, I just can't take my paintings home," they explain, with hesitation. Even my top students are often scared to make marks on canvas because so often children are chided for making errors. The beauty of an iPad Pro is that an artist can take a photo of any developing work, and edit their painting with an apple pencil in ProCreate. Fear is replaced with action because children can create multiple layers, undo mistakes, copy any work, & experiment without being afraid of losing their progress.

After taking a weeklong AP art training, I've viewed affluent portfolios scoring a 5 that had the ability to fearlessly experiment with any medium digitally.

Digital art and the experience of creating on an iPad simply is the best way to lead my talented students down a road of confidence, exploration, experimentation, sustained investigation, and a future career as a professional designer. I'm well experienced in ProCreate myself, and am hopeful that you will fund my projects so all AP Art students have iPads to create level 5 portfolios. We will amaze you with our boundless digital paintings.
