Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The dynamics between instructor and students will change as the teacher becomes a person who plays more of a supportive/coordinator role while the students facilitate their own learning through the use of technology! Students will access apps such as: Prezi, Educreations, Schoology, DocAs, & Popplet.

My students come from low income households.

The majority of our student make up (campus wide) is of minorities. Our campus has the largest student body for a campus with only 7th & 8th grade. This puts us at a great disadvantage when it comes to resources that our counterparts have.

My Project

My students need 2 iPad Minis to access apps/web tools and bring our content/learning to a digital age while making history relevant. Students who have never used an iPad or are not familiar with computer devices (and their capabilities) will become experts. Others who are fluent with multiple technologies will flourish with their use. Our first project will be to create a Popplet web map based on the colonial region's political, economical, geographic and social structures. Students will upload their web maps into Educreations and create an audio/visual presentation of their work. Students will have the opportunity to use voki.com to create avatars of themselves so they may broadcast current events, not only explaining the event but also their use of primary/secondary sources. Students will also become familiar with the following web tools: icivics.com, todaysmeet.com, studyblue.com, edcanvas.com, freesolstuff.com, GoAnimate.com.

It is crucial that my students are given the opportunity to access technologies that their peers are able to access.

How will my kids be college ready if they've never touched modern technology and applied it academically? This donation gives them that opportunity.
