Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are living in a day in age were technology is EVERYTHING...especially technology in the classroom. My kindergartens love learning new things and love exploring the world using their hands.
Our students are very precocious kindergarteners in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom.
In an ICT classroom, there are two teachers and the students consist of general ed. and special needs students. I am the special educator in the classroom but I support the needs of ALL of our students. Our school is located in a high poverty part of Brooklyn, where 98% of the students receive free breakfast, lunch and a healthy snack.
My Project
Having an iPad mini in our classroom would greatly enhance instruction especially during our small group instruction and stations. In an ICT classroom the use of smaller groups is used tremendously through out our day. The iPad mini would assist in little fingers being able to play interactive math games at their level and also be used as a component in our listening center. The iPad mini would allow us to download books and have the children listen and read along. The iPad would also encourage our kindergarteners to be independent.
Our class consists of Special Needs students and English Language Learners, who need visual stimulation as well during small group instruction.
The majority of the kindergarten students in our class do not have access to computers or any form of technology in their homes so having an iPad mini in the classroom would give them the exposure to different interactive websites that they wouldn't be able to access in their homes.
Funding this iPad would make a world of difference to the students in our classroom who need visual and interactive learning.
