Our school is a Title 1 school. We have a very diverse make up of our students consisting of 92% low income, 32% English Language Learners, and 26% mobility rate. Being so close to a Naval base, we also educate many military families. All students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Despite the many hardships these students encounter on a daily basis, they are very eager to come to school and learn!
Unfortunately, my students have very limited exposure to technology in their daily lives. I want to give them exposure to fun, interactive, and educational games that keep them motivated to learn.
My students speak of their aspirations of what they want to be when they grow up. I have 22 future astronauts, scientists, and engineers. In an ever-changing world, it is my goal to be able to give them exposure to the tools and technology they can use in the future!
My Project
In our school we have 4 floating Chromebook carts that we share among 20 classrooms and specialty teachers. While this is a great resource, we are limited in accessing them on a day to day basis. My students would use these iPads during center time in both Math and Language Arts.
Having iPads will help promote independence and the technological exposure my students need.
Many of my students don't have access to quality books, and therefore, are not read to at home. We would use this for a listening center so that they have the opportunity to hear what a fluent reader sounds like. I would also love to have the ability to use Chatterpix, an app that would allow my kids to take a picture of a story page and narrate their own story.
I would also use the iPads for independent work during our math block. I'd love for them to be able to access IXL, a math app that directly targets the childs needs for each standard in a fun, engaging way. Beyond these few apps, the options are endless with the amount of educational applications out today. I would absolutely love your help in order to make this accessible for my students. Thank you for your consideration!
