IPad Intervention for Reading and Math

My students need an iPad to help with their intervention in reading and math. I do not have one iPad for my students. Half of my students are below benchmark.

My Students

Have you ever not been able to read or do math? I have students in my fourth grade class that cannot do that. They have come to me from interesting circumstance. They have not been taught this yet. I would like them to practice what I have been teaching them with the help of the apps on the iPad.

Half of my class is between well below grade level to below grade level.

I have thirty students in my class. I teach fourth grade. These students that are well below and below grade level have some serious needs. Several of them cannot read or do simple math facts. Others struggle with reading and simple math facts. I would like my students to practice what I am teaching them on the iPad with the many varied mathematics and reading apps that are available. There are many apps on the iPad that could give my students quality practice time in school that they cannot receive anywhere else. My students need this practice time to help them with their reading and math. I worry about my students so much that if I can't get them to grade level in reading and math, it will adversely affect them for the rest of their lives. My students do not have the support systems they need outside of school to help them adequately enough to practice what they are being taught at school in the home.

My Project

I am requesting a 16GK iPad to help my students practice what I am teaching them while they are at school. Since half of my class is below grade level, I have to make many varied lesson plans to meet the needs of my students. If I had one iPad, my students could then practice what I have taught them on the iPad. Each student in my class would be given an allotted amount of time each day to practice reading and math on the iPad. This would be done by using the many varied apps that are available in reading and math for the iPad. My students would be able to interact with the apps in reading and math and they would receive immediate feedback as to whether they read something correctly or computed a math problem correctly. Then after I am done teaching the next student, they can have a turn on the iPad practicing math and reading at their individual level. I would download many apps according to the different needs of my students.

I can teach my students how to read and do math, however, they need to practice what I teach them to become proficient.

Many of my students do not have out-of-school support to help them. So I have been thinking of a way that my students could be given practice in school while I still have to teach other students, an iPad is the answer. If I don't give my students time to practice, it is like teaching them how to hit a baseball and then sending them directly to the major leagues.
