My Students

IPads are an amazing learning device that provide a unique and rich learning experience for all students. The device applications written for Kindergarten students include immediate feedback that motivates either correcting mistakes or moving forward to new challenges.

This year I am the inclusion Kindergarten class with multiple abilities from special education to gifted students.

Many of these students need frequent practice and repetition with the many concepts that are part of pre-reading and early math learning. The touch screen operation of an iPad makes it a tool that students learn to use quickly and easily. This allows teachers and students to focus on content and activities, rather than on the technology.

My Project

Students will be able to work in multiple modalities (tactile, visual and auditory) that will motivate them to practice new concepts and enhance their ability to share their thinking and learning. Here are a just a few examples of ways in which the current student outcome goals in Kindergarten can be individualized, met and enhanced with the use of the iPad across Core Curriculum Content: Early literacy experiences with sound-symbol connections and recognition; Shaping letters and numbers in the correct form; Early reading experiences with books or with phonics; Voice recording capabilities to facilitate storytelling, creating class-made audio books and sharing student thinking about a project or drawing; Number recognition and counting; Math concepts; Drawing programs with a wide range of tools that can be managed with a fingertip; Build confidence in students and support concrete learning; Differentiation in the classroom.

All students in the class will use the iPads daily through literacy stations, enrichment activities, collaborative projects, and skills repetition in language arts and math.

The immediate feedback and redirection of these apps provide for more time on task and less frustration when working independently. The iPad enhances the ways students are able to practice skills and builds confidence through academic achievement.
