Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach technology in grades Pre-K through 8th in an urban community with many challenges including limited materials and poverty. In addition, many of my students are bilingual and newcomers to this country. 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Regardless of the challenges my students face, I need to make sure they are in a position to be successful, and this includes staying current on best practices as it relates to instructional technology.
This goal is essential in not only being a lifelong learner but also improving the quality of teaching and learning in my classroom.
My Project
As a technology teacher I have many goals and passions that I would love to meet as an educator. The first goal is to be more mobile. I work in a lab where all the devices are stationary including the device on the teachers desk. An iPad would allow me to be more mobile during my lessons leading to more meaningful interactions with my students. In addition, hopefully when we return to the classroom we will begin robotics lessons and the bluetooth connectivity of an iPad will take those lessons to the next level for my classes. In addition, with the turn to remote learning an iPad would be very useful to me as I try to stay connected to students and families from home.
Furthermore, I have a passion when it comes to learning and growth through professional development opportunities.
As a technology teacher it would amazing to have the power of an iPad with me when attending or leading a professional development. Using an iPad will allow for flexibility when working with either iOS and Android platforms.
