This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My resource room of special education and emotionally disabled students are awesome! Many have experienced tremendous trauma and have many circumstances affecting their ability to learn...but they persevere!! I have learned just as much from my students. They make steps each week towards their goals. My students need additional help in learning. I work diligently to help them add their challenges head on. I advocate for them and teach each student to advocate for themselves to ensure they are successful.
My Project
Having an iPad will help my students use apps that help students with disabilities learn even more. My school is in an urban setting and financial resources are tight. My students need an iPad as an assisted learning device to translate, learn to read, and help with math. It will be useful for teaching executive functioning skills such as prioritizing, time management, scheduling, and daily living skills. I often work in small groups or individually. Many of my students are on the autism spectrum, cognitive issues, or have emotional disabilities and struggle to express themselves appropriately with adults and peers.
